The Importance of Using In-network Providers

TCS strongly encourages the use of in-network insurance providers, meaning the provider (hospital, clinic, MD, psychiatrist, licensed counselor, social worker, etc.) is contracted with your health plan’s network.

Don’t let this be you when you receive your out-of-network insurance bill, search for an in-network mental health provider.

Here are several benefits for you and your family to use in-network insurance providers for your mental health and medical needs.

  1. Quality Assurance: Insurance companies have developed standards and criteria that providers must meet in order to be in their network. This offers assurance about the quality of care you'll receive.

  2. Lower cost, predictable expenses: As part of their agreement with the insurance company, providers agree to a schedule of fixed reimbursement rates for their services. This allows both the patient and the provider to know the out of pocket costs in advance, so there are no unexpected costs and surprise bills. In many cases, the only cost to the insured is the plan’s copayment.

  3. Simplified claims process. In-network providers deal directly with the insurance company to arrange payment for services rendered. They take on the responsibility of submitting claims and filling out all the necessary paperwork, taking the burden off you.

  4. Network Directories for Convenience: Insurance companies maintain directories of in-network providers, which can help you easily find healthcare professionals and facilities near you.

  5. Continuity of Care: If you have an ongoing mental health or medical condition that requires long-term care, using in-network providers can help ensure consistency in your treatment plan.

Using in-network insurance providers can provide financial savings, peace of mind, and a smoother healthcare experience. Also, it is essential to be aware of the network restrictions of your specific insurance plan, as some Teamster health plans do not cover services rendered by out of network providers. Always check with your plan’s Summary Plan Description (SPD) or contact your welfare fund and ask about the plan rules regarding out of network services.  When it comes to your plan’s benefits for mental health or substance use services, you can always contact Teamster Center Services for the most up-to-date information on those benefits and assistance locating in-network providers.
